SILHOUETTES AND FULL MOONS

Silhouettes slid into my consciousness

several years ago

causing me to pause

and take pleasure

in the poetic work of

darkness and light.

The moon and sun played awhile, Panama City Beach
Dark and Light at Sunset, Panama City Beach
Facing the Rising Moon, Panama City Beach

The first time silhouette charmed me

I was standing on the balcony of my hotel room in San Benedetto Del Tronto.

The breeze from the Adriatic Sea

swirled around my legs,

folicked beneath the light fabric of my dress,

strolled up my legs

pecked me on my neck

and

brushed against my cheeks

like my darling’s hand.

I lifted my head and there She was —

Her Majesty

A full moon hanging so low

it seemed that at any minute,

the large light of night might fall into the great depths of the sea.

From my Balcony, Italy

The guests had finally arrived,

enlivening the apartment beside me.

Loud Italian greetings and rumbling laughter rushed through the night air.

My chest quickened — yearning to be among the

human-shaped silhouettes

hugging and double-kissing each other on the cheeks.

First Full Moon of 2023

Almost two years have passed since that full moon over the Mediterranean

then just a few days ago

As we were driving Zuri to Tampa for her second semester of college,

Markolee screamed in excitement from the backseat.

I lifted my head again and spotted Her Majesty

the first full moon of 2023!!!

Her Majesty— Full Moon

Akin to the night I stood on the balcony many miles away and memories ago,

I wanted to be washed in the light of the moon.

At the hotel, after leaving Zuri

Images that were bright in the day

were now silhouettes in the night

leading me farther and farther away

from the years of rearing children and

closer and closer to empowering young adults.

I laid on the bed

set my eyes on the celestial light

And watched as the moon scaled an invisible string

up into the heavens.

Maybe for you too,

So much

has transpired between two full moons.

Maybe you too are embracing your idiosnycrasies.

As for me–

I am a Silhouette admirer

And a moongazer.

I LOVE CONNECTING WITH YOU

The next full moon will be February 6th. Will you moongaze with me?

ON WRITING

I’m gearing up for a few weeks of revising my manuscript and I’m extremely excited and a little overwhelmed !!!

As a writer, this means being okay with starting again — not from scratch, but from the beginning.

I cleared my desk today. Then I decided, I’ll start writing tomorrow:-)

WHAT I’M READING

I read a sample of LUST by Victoria Christopher Murray and I need the entire book ASAP!!!

Have you read any of her books or seen the movies?
