My Parisian Journal: Day 3

You know that saying:

“It’s not the destination, it’s the journey?”

 I lived that maxim today.

We left the apartment for Monument à la République, however, the  three-mile journey unveiled treasures I did not foresee.

At the Jardin Villemin, a group of young students, dressed in white, practiced their gold instruments, giving a sense that something great was on the horizon. But what Exactly? I don’t know! I couldn’t read the words on their shirts.

I walked past their youthful energy and sauntered through the labyrinth garden. I stopped to sniff the lavender, admired the wildflowers, and watched a bee dine on nectar. In the center of the garden, a woman drank water from the fountain. She pulled her dress up and ran the cool water over her legs. She smoothed her hair back and spoke to me– and yet again, I could not understand her.

By the time we reached our destination, my mind and eyes were full.

On our way back, the students in the park quadrupled in size. Their horns and cheers were loud and inviting. They bubbled out of the park onto the street by the canal.

An excited young man ran up to us and showed us his shirt.

“We are young doctors!!” he exclaimed. He pointed and announced they were jumping off the bridge to celebrate the completion of their medical studies. The crowd cheered. The horn blew, then groups of twos, threes, and fours, plunged into the cool canal. They have reached the destination of graduation, but it is the journey they are celebrate.

Enjoy the journey, my friends.

Until next time,

Be Well
