I was visiting my sister in New Jersey when I noted two small birdhouses hanging in her backyard. She told me Sav made them for the kids, and I would get to meet him that afternoon. He came over to fix some stepping stones in the yard, my sister introduced us, and I commented on the craftsmanship of the birdhouses.

“I will make you one,” he said cheerfully, to which I responded, “Thank you, but I’m leaving for Florida in the morning.”

I enjoyed the rest of the afternoon with my sister and prepared for my early morning flight. I packed my suitcases, twisted my hair, and kissed my niece and nephew goodnight.

That morning, when I opened the front door to roll my suitcases to the car, a birdhouse was on the front step, with a note:

“Enjoy watching the birds.”  Sav.

A coat of white paint, and a few green circles later, it is hanging from a tree in my backyard. The birds are checking it out, and I am entertained by their colors and songs.

Welcome to spring friends.
Let us share our craft, stories, and
herbs from our gardens.
