Eggplants are in season-
I found 4 for $5 at my local grocery this week, and while they were not on my list, I just had to put them in my cart. But don’t run out and purchase them without knowing how to sex them.
Shame on you. That’s not what I meant:-).
Now that you’re done shaking your head and your mind is back on an actual eggplant, here is a tip to finding the sex of eggplant – and choosing the best one.
As in nature, there are males and females, and this is also true for eggplants. The female eggplants have an elongated slot at the bottom and tend to carry more seeds – which can make your dish bitter.
The male eggplants, on the other hand, have a small, round dot on the bottom and unlike their female counterparts, tend to have fewer seeds. This makes the male eggplant the best option for that delightful Eggplant Parmigiano. Or Baba Ghanoush. Or Stromboli.
